3D printing has come a long way in the last few years. It's now being used in medicine to help print replacement parts such as bone, for patients.
According to an article on df3d, doctors in India have 3D printed a replacement upper jaw called the maxilla for a cancer patient. The 41 year old was diagnosed with cancer in the upper jaw and doctors decided to remove it. The patient had their head CT scanned and a new jaw was printed by Osteo3D. This is a huge leap for medical technology, and will have positive implications when colonizing new worlds. We won't have to send sick people back to Earth, but treat them on the new colonies instead.
