World leaders have joined him in criticizing the failure of global efforts to combat this disease. Since the appeal has been launched, $400 million has been donated, while another $250 million has been pledged.
This goes to show exactly why we need a Global Space Agency. The World Health Organization, The United Nations & medical NGOs are struggling to deal with this outbreak because of lack of infrastructure & funding in the developing countries where the outbreaks started. It is starting to destroy some of the West African countries' fragile economies. Since a Global Space Agency would be dependent on GDP from countries, it would have a much stronger incentive to strengthen medical infrastructure in these countries and reduce the burden on infectious diseases.
